Arvind Kejriwal, the chief minister of Delhi, has charged the BJP with attempting to impede his government’s efforts in the health and education sectors by arresting Manish Sisodia. The liquor scam, he stated, “is an excuse” and if Manish Sisodia joins the BJP, “he will be free by tomorrow”.
“Corruption is not the issue. The motive was to stop the good work done by the ministers,” Kejriwal said in his first interaction with the media since Sisodia’s arrest.
Mr. Sisodia was arrested on Sunday in connection with the alleged liquor scam. He is the face of the AAP government’s work in health and education. He has been identified as the case’s top suspect. He previously gave up his position as minister. Two of the five surviving ministers now share the 18 ministries he was managing.
“The BJP wants to stop AAP. Ever since we won Punjab, they can’t stand us,” Kejriwal said.
“They have done India proud,” Kejriwal said, drawing a contrast with the BJP governments in Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and elsewhere, where “they could not fix a school or hospital” even after so many years.
“I assure the people of Delhi that this will not happen. Delhi’s good work will continue and with greater pace,” he said.
After Sisodia’s arrest, the AAP has raised a conspiracy theory, alleging that the BJP has given their leaders free rein to attack Sisodia’s achievements and erase the work done by the Delhi government.
Since Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena submitted a complaint claiming anomalies in the now-retracted excise policy of 2021, the BJP has been in attack mode.
After Sisodia’s arrest, AAP had called him “liquor minister”
Following Sisodia’s arrest, the party called to him as the “liquor minister” and accused that he had a “moral compass” in a series of criticisms that have been seen as a blow to the AAP’s reputation for fighting corruption. The anti-corruption movement led by Anna Hazare was instrumental in ending the Congress rule in Delhi and the UPA government in the nation. The key AAP leaders, including Kejriwal and Mr. Sisodia, were active in this movement.
Today CM Kejriwal said even after the BJP allegations, the Central agencies have been unable to find any money in Sisodia’s house or his bank accounts.
“A man who does ₹ 100 crore deals, gets a few lakh rupees just like that. But even ₹ 10,000 was not found at Manish Sisodia’s house. No jewellery was found,” Mr Kejriwal said. “Now the Aam Aadmi Party will go door-to-door and explain it to the people, who are already infuriated about this,” he added.
