Rahul Gandhi: In a pointed critique of the ruling BJP, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, expressed his concerns over deteriorating infrastructure following the recent stampede at Mumbai’s Bandra Terminus. The incident, which injured nine people, has highlighted the urgent need for better public safety measures and infrastructure maintenance, especially as the festive season is underway.

Rahul Gandhi: Inaugurations Should Serve the Public

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Rahul Gandhi stated, “Inaugurations and publicity are good only when there is a foundation behind them that actually works to serve the public.” He highlighted that public projects should be more than just photo opportunities; they must serve their intended purpose effectively.

The Congress leader criticised the BJP government for neglecting public safety. He said that, “When people lose their lives and bridges, platforms, or statues start collapsing after the ribbon is cut, it is a matter of serious concern.”

Rahul Gandhi also referenced the tragic Balasore train accident last June, which resulted in the loss of 300 lives. Instead of providing compensation to the victims’ families, he argued, the government has involved them in prolonged legal battles.

Crumbling Infrastructure: A Growing Concern

LoP also referenced the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, which reportedly fell just nine months after its unveiling. He argued that this incident shows a lack of respect for historical figures and a disregard for public safety. “When even the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj falls down in just 9 months, it clearly means that the intention was only publicity,” he said.

Need for International-Class Infrastructure

Rauhl Gandhi stressed the importance of creating infrastructure that meets international standards while addressing local needs. “Today, the country needs international-class infrastructure that also takes into account the local needs of the poor – that makes business easier, travel easier and keeps people safe,” he stated.

In his concluding remarks, Rahul Gandhi asserted that India is capable of achieving significant advancements in infrastructure. He called for an effective and transparent system focused on public service, stating, “We just need an effective and transparent system aimed at public service and focused on laying the foundation for a strong future for the country.”
