Independence Day 2023: As the grand celebrations marking 75 years of India’s independence, known as ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav,’ draw to a close, Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended a warm welcome to the nation for the commencement of a new era dedicated to the upcoming 100 years of Indian independence, termed as the ‘Amrit Kaal.’ Addressing the nation during the 2023 Independence Day speech, delivered for the tenth consecutive time from the iconic Red Fort, PM Modi emphasized a collective determination to witness a flag of a “developed India” soaring high when the tricolor is unfurled in 2047.
“Chalta chalata kaal chakra, Amrit kaal ka bhaal chakra, sabke sapne apne sapne, panpe sapne saare, dheer chale veer chale, chale yuva humare, neeti sahi reeti naayi, gati sahi raah nayi, chuno chunauti seena taan, jag mein badhao desh ka naam…”

In his vision for the Amrit Kaal, PM Modi poetically expressed the central idea that India’s brilliance would illuminate the path ahead during this next phase of independence. He conveyed that the nation stood at a pivotal crossroads, possessing the strength to influence the evolving global order following the aftermath of the Covid-19 pandemic. With unwavering assurance, the Prime Minister conveyed his confidence to the citizens, promising a future for India defined by progress and vibrancy over the next five years. Notably, this marked his final Independence Day address before the anticipated 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Reflecting back, PM Modi recalled the turning point of 2014 when the people collectively chose to propel the nation forward, setting the stage for the transformative journey India embarked upon. The address underscored the potential of India to shape its destiny, embrace change, and emerge as a beacon of progress in the years ahead.
“India was freed from the era of instability. In 2014, we were the 10th largest economy. Today with the efforts of 140 crore citizens we have become the 5th largest economy in the world…This did not happen just like that. The demon of corruption that had the country in its clutches – we stopped leakages and created a strong economy,” he added.
