Independence Day 2024— On Wednesday evening, President Droupadi Murmu addressed the nation on the eve of the 78th Independence Day, emphasizing the government’s commitment to social justice and inclusive growth. In her speech, the President highlighted the importance of inclusion in social life and called for the strengthening of affirmative action as a tool for achieving this goal.

Focus on Social Justice

President Murmu underscored that social justice remains the top priority for the government. “The spirit of inclusion pervades every aspect of social life in India,” she said. “Affirmative action must be strengthened as an instrument of inclusion.” She urged the nation to reject any tendencies that stoke discord based on perceived social hierarchies.

Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction

Addressing the nation, President Murmu highlighted India’s economic achievements, stating that the country has been among the fastest-growing major economies, with an average growth rate of 8 percent annually from 2021 to 2024. This growth, she noted, has not only increased the income of the people but has also significantly reduced the number of individuals living below the poverty line.

“This has not only put more money in the hands of people, but it has also drastically reduced the number of people living below the poverty line. As for those who continue to suffer from poverty, all efforts are being made not only to provide a helping hand to them but also to bring them out of it,” President Murmu said.

PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana

The President also spoke about the PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana, which was launched during the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic. This scheme continues to provide free ration to about 80 crore people, ensuring that those who have recently come out of poverty are not forced back into it. “The PM Garib Kalyan Anna Yojana ensures that those who have recently come out of poverty are not forced back into it,” she said.
