Independence Day 2024: Red Fort all Decked Up, PM Modi to Deliver His 11th Consecutive Speech Amid Tight Security

India is getting ready for its 78th Independence Day, and Delhi is seeing increased security. At the Red Fort, Prime Minister Modi will make his eleventh consecutive speech as the country commemorates its heroes and celebrates its freedom.

Independence Day 2024:Today (15th August, 2024) India is celebrating 78th Independence Day. The day when it broke the shackles of more than 200 years of British colonial rule. This year, it’s going to be a great celebration with full patriotic fervor and a solemn tribute paid to martyrs’ sacrifices of those freedom fighters because of whom it turned out to be a reality.

Heightened Security Measures for Independence Day Celebrations

Security in Delhi, the capital city, is at a high alert to ensure a smooth and incident-free celebration. Over 10,000 policemen will be joined by snipers and advanced facial recognition technology to ensure safety during the event. This includes the deployment of 10,000 regular force police; an additional 3,000 will come from the traffic police force to maintain order and ensure the smooth functioning of activities.

The main feature of security this year is the installation of more than 700 AI-enabled face recognition CCTV cameras, which will be fitted with special features like high resolution and pan-tilt-zoom to cover a considerable field of vision, realizing the potential for identifying a person over a distance. It will definitely enhance the security infrastructure and contribute much towards crowd control.

Independence Day Celebrations at the Red Fort

The historic Red Fort in Delhi is dolled up with bright decorations and is all set to host the Independence Day celebrations. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, for the 11th consecutive year, will lead the celebrations by unfurling the national flag. It will be such an important day to showcase the country’s pride and oneness.

Apart from the festivities, the day will also be marked by rewarding excellence in service in the Delhi Police. 18 personnel will be awarded the President’s Police Medal; two officers would receive the medal for distinguished service while the remaining 16 will get it for meritorious service.

A National Reflection on Unity and Growth

The eve of Independence Day saw President Droupadi Murmu address the nation with reflections on the country’s journey since independence and the collective progress covered over the decades.
