Independence Day 2024: On August 15, 2024, the country will celebrate its 78th Independence Day, and this year’s festivities are expected to be particularly significant. Notably, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is going to wave the national flag from the Red Fort for the eleventh time on this Independence Day, marking the first one under Modi 3.0. The theme of the event this year, “Developed India,” has been chosen by the Indian government, adding to its uniqueness. By the time India celebrates its 100th anniversary of independence, this theme hopes to have transformed the country into a fully developed nation.
PM Modi to Hoist the National Flag for the 11th Time
This Independence Day will be marked by Prime Minister Modi’s 11th consecutive flag-hoisting ceremony at the Red Fort in Delhi. PM Modi will become the third Prime Minister in India’s history to have hoisted the national flag more than ten times. Before him, former Prime Ministers Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru and Indira Gandhi hoisted the flag 17 and 16 times, respectively. The occasion is made even more special as PM Modi has called on the public to participate in the ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ campaign, encouraging every household to display the national flag.
Why This Year’s Theme is Special
The theme for Independence Day 2024—‘Developed India’—holds a special place in the vision of PM Modi, who has frequently spoken about transforming India into a developed nation. But what exactly defines a developed country? A developed nation is characterized by strong economic foundations, including robust industries, ample employment opportunities, high per capita income, and a solid education system. Currently, India is considered a developing country, but the government is committed to transitioning it into a developed nation by 2047, coinciding with the 100th anniversary of India’s independence.
