India – Canada Row: Govt Raises Concern Over High Commissioner’s Entry Denial at Scottish Gurudwara with UK

India - Canada Row

India – Canada Row: India has brought up the issue with the UK’s Rishi Sunak government, expressing concern over its high commissioner being denied access to a Scottish Gurudwara by radical British Sikh activists.

Govt raises concern with UK

Vikram Doraiswami, the Indian High Commissioner to the UK, was denied entry by radical Sikh activists earlier in the day in a Gurudwara in Scotland. This event occurred amidst a significant diplomatic spat between India and Canada, stemming from the killing of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar on Canadian territory.

Scotland police were alerted when radical Sikh activists prevented Doraiswami from entering the gurdwara. The gurdwara’s organizers intervened to ensure the envoy’s safety. India has formally raised this matter with the UK Foreign Office. Providing information about the incident, a pro-Khalistan activist stated that they became aware of Doraiswami’s scheduled meeting with the Glasgow gurdwara committee on Albert Drive.

He said, “I don’t think the gurdwara committee is too happy about what happened. But Indian officials are not welcome in any gurdwara in the UK. We are fed up with the UK-India collusion. The recent tensions since Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing have led to British Sikhs being targeted. This is to do with Avtar Singh Khanda and Jagtar Singh Johal to.”

UK PM Rishi Sunak’s statement during G20

UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who attended the G20 Summit in Delhi earlier this month, emphasized that no type of violence or extremism is tolerated will be tolerated in the country. He said, “Let me just say unequivocally that no form of extremism or violence like that is acceptable in the UK.”
