India – Canada Row: High Commissioner Vikram Doraiswami Denied Entry to Scottish Gurdwara by British Sikh Activists | Details

India - Canada

India – Canada Row: On Friday, Vikram Doraiswami, the Indian High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, encountered an entry restriction at a gurdwara in Scotland. This incident occurred amidst a diplomatic dispute between India and Canada regarding the killing of the terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Doraiswami denied entry to Gurudwara

Doraiswami faced obstruction from a faction of radical British Sikh activists who informed him that he was unwelcome. A pro-Khalistan Sikh activist shared further information, revealing that some activists learned of Doraiswami’s scheduled meeting with the Glasgow Gurdwara committee on Albert Drive.

An activist said, “A few people turned up and told him he was not welcome. There was a slight confrontation. I don’t think the gurdwara committee is too happy about what happened. But Indian officials are not welcome in any gurdwara in the UK, We are fed up with the UK-India collusion. The recent tensions since Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing have led to British Sikhs being targeted. This is to do with Avtar Singh Khanda and Jagtar Singh Johal too.”

Diplomatic tensions between India – Canada

The dispute between New Delhi and Ottawa ignited when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, on September 18, suggested the “potential” involvement of Indian agents in the June killing of Nijjar. India vehemently dismissed these allegations as “absurd” and “motivated,” leading to the expulsion of a senior Canadian diplomat in retaliation for Ottawa’s expulsion of an Indian official related to the case. Since then, visa services too have been suspended.
