75 Years of the Supreme Court Celebrated
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the conference, addressing the gathering on core issues pertaining to society, especially women’s safety. He showed concern for atrocities against women and children and called for proper implementation of the existing laws. “Atrocities on women and the safety of children are serious concerns of the society today. Many strict laws have been made in the country for the safety of women, but we need to make it more active,” said PM Modi. He went on to say that speedy justice in cases relating to atrocities on women would do a lot to increase people’s trust in security provided by the legal system.
Strengthening Democracy and National Integrity
PM Modi also made it a point to underlay the importance of the judiciary in India’s democratic setup. He reflected, “In the Amritkaal of independence, 140 crore countrymen have only one dream-developed India, new India. New India, that is-modern India in thinking and resolve. Our judiciary is a strong pillar for this vision.” He emphasized in his address that the role of the judiciary is imperative to safeguard democratic values and foster justice among all citizens.
Reflections on the Supreme Court’s Legacy
The Prime Minister invoked the Emergency period and said the Supreme Court, during that period also, had come out as a mascot of protection for fundamental rights. He was very confident in the abilities of the judiciary to protect the integrity of the nation and public trust. “I can confidently say that the Supreme Court has retained the faith of the people. In those dark days of Emergency, when all hopes were lost, the Supreme Court had ensured our fundamental rights, and it did so every time,” PM Modi said. The 75th anniversary of the Supreme Court marked a milestone in the journey of India toward democracy, in which the apex court recommitted itself to justice and national integrity.
