India China Relations: Jaishankar says “We Continue to Strive for Relationship Built On…”

India China Relations: According to India’s foreign minister S. Jaishankar, the two countries would continue to have a relationship based on “mutual” sensitivity, respect, and interest. He made his comments in response to a query about the ties between the two nations on Wednesday at a media briefing.
“In my opinion, what I have said is a fair policy evaluation of the current situation of our relations. We continue to work toward a partnership with China that is based on mutual respect, sensitivity, and interest “Jaishankar made this statement at the end of a four-day stay in Washington, DC, where he had travelled earlier this month for an important UN meeting.

Jaishankar, who had been in New York earlier to attend the recently finished UN General Assembly, thereafter travelled to Washington, where he also met with other members of the Biden administration in addition to his US colleague Antony Blinken.

The minister responded, “I think if the spokesperson of a foreign ministry were to say something, I would urge you to see a comment from the spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of the corresponding country,” in response to a question regarding a Chinese envoy’s remarks regarding the “overall” stability on the India-China border.

According to Indian ambassador to China, Sun Weidong-The border situation between China and India is “generally steady.” After the conflict in June 2020’s Galwan Valley, the two countries switched from “emergency response” to “normalised management and control.”

Jaishankar also discussed the Indo-Pacific trends and how India and the US intended to respond to them.

Jaishankar emphasised that the two nations had a common goal of strengthening and improving the Indo-Pacific, saying: “Where Indian and US interests overlap, and they do, I think, is on the stability and security, progress, prosperity, and development of the Indo Pacific.”

Because, as you have seen, even in the case of Ukraine, a conflict fought far away has the potential and power of actually causing turmoil around the world in terms of ramifications for people’s daily lives, he continued.

Jaishankar on current global scenario

According to Jaishankar, our current world is highly globalised, interconnected, and interdependent. “Therefore, it would be an understatement to argue that we have something to lose. I believe there are significant stakes in our ability to maintain the stability, security, collaboration, and right-mindedness of the greater area today”.

What we have seen in recent years, in his opinion, is an India whose interests and inclinations extend sufficiently eastward into the Pacific and the United States, and which is open enough to work flexibly and comfortably with partners going beyond the conventional limitations in the past of treaties and alliances.
After several rounds of diplomatic and military negotiations, India and China have removed their frontline soldiers from the Gogra and Hot Springs areas along the Pangong Lake’s two sides. After the stalemate in eastern Ladakh, relations between the two nations deteriorated, although India has continued to insist that maintaining peace along the Line of Actual Control is essential for the growth of bilateral relations.
