In order to build and maintain the road networks in the crucial border regions of Western Assam and Western Arunachal Pradesh, the Union government has tasked Border Roads Organization (BRO).
The government wants to connect the remote areas of the state to support the social and economic development of Arunachal Pradesh, according to Brig Raman Kumar, Chief Engineer of Project Vartak, who was speaking about Border Road infrastructure development in inaccessible areas close to the Line of Actual Control (LAC). Tawang district’s most remote areas in order to support the socioeconomic development of the region. It was also explained that BRO has made significant progress in creating national highways, single-lane roads, double-lane roads, and other types of roads in the state.

Sela and Nechipu tunnels are under construction which once finished will ensure vehicular mobility during winters
He also gave a brief overview of infrastructure development, stating that the main Sela and Nechipu tunnels are now under construction. Maintaining snow-free highways during a severe winter is the primary goal of construction and the tunnel. Currently, wintertime vehicular mobility is exceedingly challenging.
Additionally informed that the Sela tunnel, which is 400 metres below Sela Pass, is under development and that once finished, people will be able to travel through it even in the winter. It was also revealed that BRO is also working on the Nepcha tunnel, which is close to the Nepcha pass, and that once it is finished, both military and vehicular mobility would be much more streamlined, which will improve the area’s infrastructure and enhance tourism.
The government of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is also develping communication channels to improve connectivity close to the border. In Tawang, where Indian and Chinese troops had engaged in a bloody battle, several mobile towers have been erected. A local resident claimed that although mobile and internet connectivity has improved, it still falls short of expectations.
