Congress veteran leader Rahul Gandhi has said that India is no longer a democaratic country. Sharing a Swedish media report that showed India’s downgrading, the leader launched an attack at the opposition.
Mr Gandhi tweeted a Sweden’s V-Dem Institute’s democracy report that has downgraded India from “world’s largest democracy” to “electoral democracy”.
The Swedish report that the leader shared also highlighted that India is now as autocratic as Pakistan and is worse than Bangladesh.
Before the Swedish report, another global report by the US government-funded NGO Freedom House had downgraded India’s status from “free” to “partly free” and claimed that “political rights and civil liberties have eroded in India since Narendra Modi became Prime Minister in 2014.”
In the recent times, India has witnessed many voices of dissent being oppressed and in the same light, the leader has attacked the Central government.
