India Canada Relations: The Ministry of External Affairs stated on Thursday that Canada has not supplied any information regarding the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, notwithstanding the current diplomatic dispute between India and Canada. MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi Expresses Concerns About Canada’s Reputation Amid Diplomatic Dispute

Bagchi Said that, “From our side, specific evidence about criminal activities by individuals based on Canadian soil has been shared with Canada but not acted upon…Yes, I do think there is a degree of prejudice here. They have made allegations and taken action on them. To us, it seems that these allegations by the government of Canada are primarily politically driven.” He added, “If you’re talking about reputational issues and reputational damage, if there’s any country that needs to look at this, I think it is Canada and its growing reputation as a place, as a safe haven for terrorists, for extremists, and for organized crime. And I think that’s a country that needs to worry about its international reputation.” Following the tit-for-tat expulsion of diplomats, the spokeswoman fielded a barrage of inquiries regarding the dispute between the two nations.

India Urges Canada to Maintain Diplomatic Parity Amid Deteriorating Relations

Bagchi added that “parity” in diplomatic presence had been communicated to the Canadian administration. The Canadian government was told, “We informed the Canadian government to have parity with diplomatic presence, their numbers are higher and I assume there will be a reduction,” he said. India and Canada’s bilateral ties have deteriorated since Prime Minister Trudeau claimed on Monday that “Indian agents” were responsible for the shooting of Hardeep Nijjar. Indian visa services in Canada have been terminated immediately by visa service provider BLS International.

India Labels Trudeau’s Accusations Politically Motivated Amid Diplomatic Dispute with Canada

India on Thursday referred to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s accusations against it about the death of a Khalistani separatist in Canada as “politically motivated” and claimed that there was some prejudice in them. Canada, according to the Ministry of External Affairs, did not provide India with any specific information regarding the Hardeep Singh Nijjar issue. A diplomatic dispute over the killing of Nijjar has broken out between India and Canada. Following Trudeau’s claims of a “potential” role for Indian agents in the assassination of the separatist leader, a dispute broke out. When questioned at a news conference about whether New Delhi had expressed its opinions to its top allies over the diplomatic dispute with Canada, MEA spokeswoman Arindam Bagchi responded that it had. Additionally, he stated that due to work interruptions brought on by security concerns, the Indian high commission and consulates in Canada are momentarily unable to process visa applications.
