India records 1,15,736 Covid-19 cases, biggest ever one day spike

India has reported 1,15,736 new cases of covid-19, the highest surge of daily cases since the onset of the pandemic, taking the overall tally to 12,801,785, as per the health ministry. In the same duration, the country also recorded 630 deaths, pushing the overall fatality tally to 1,66,177.

Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Karnataka, Maharashtra and Uttar Pradesh are the five states with the highest rise in daily infections.

Maharashtra, the worst-hit state in the country due to the pandemic, reported over 55,000 COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours.

Delhi recorded 5,100 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, which is its biggest single-day Covid figure since late November. The government on Tuesday imposed a 10 pm to 5 am night curfew till April 30.

Active cases crossed the 800,000 mark in the last 24 hours and now stands at 843,473, comprising 6.59 per cent of the total infections.

A total of 12,08,329 samples were tested for Covid-19 in the period, taking the total sample tests so far 25,14,39,598.

In the meantime, India has vaccinated 33,37,601 in the last 24 hours, while 8,70,77,474 doses of the corona jabs have been administered in the country since the drive began on January 16 after the approval for the Covishield and Covaxin.

Meanwhile, the overall global Covid-19 caseload has topped 132.2 million, while the deaths have surged to more than 2.87 million, according to the Johns Hopkins University.
