According to the US Bureau of Counterterrorism’s ‘Country Reports on Terrorism 2021: India’, the Indian government has made significant efforts to find, stop, and weaken the operations of terrorist organisations.
“The Indian government made significant efforts to detect, disrupt, and degrade operations of terrorist organisations,” the US Bureau of Counterterrorism’s report read.
In 2021, a change in terrorists’ tactics was noted. They began targeting civilians and relying more heavily on IEDs, including an explosive attack using drones on an air force base.
The “Country Reports on Terrorism 2021: India” report claims that India promptly responds with American requests for information regarding terrorism investigations and works to minimize threats in response to that information. Collective efforts to stop terrorist travel are ongoing, and U.S. authorities are alerted to potential threats against the country and its interests.
However, there were no modifications made to India’s anti-terrorism laws in 2021. India increased the number of Multi-Agency Centers at the state level to improve intelligence sharing between state and federal agencies. At airport locations, India is using dual-screen X-raying for cargo screening.
The NIA through September 2021, investigated 37 cases related to ISIS and arrested 168 people.
