Indian road will same as US standard: Nitin Gadkari

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced on Friday that by 2024 the country’s roads will be like American roads. The Union Minister said that before the end of 2024, the road infrastructure will be at par with the standard of the US roads. Gadkari said that India is the fastest growing major economy in the world and is steadily moving towards achieving $5 trillion GDP by 2024-25.

Addressing FICCI’s annual conference and 95th AGM in Delhi, Gadkari said, “We are building world-class road infrastructure in the country and promise you that before the end of 2024, India’s roads will be like American roads.”

He said, “Our logistics cost is a big problem, right now it is 16 per cent, but I promise you that by the end of 2024, we will take it to single digit, to 9 per cent.”

Need to increase exports and reduce imports

He said that by the year 2024-25, India will be a $5 trillion economy. The central government is promoting growth and employment to achieve sustained growth. Gadkari said that India will play a major role in achieving the global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030. Gadkari also stressed on the need to increase exports and reduce imports.

He said that India is on the path of building an inclusive India following the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi by promoting investment, economic growth and job creation to achieve sustainable development. “However, we need cooperation, coordination and communication among all stakeholders,” he added.


Apart from this, electric mobility is being continuously promoted by Nitin Gadkari. He said that the government aims to double the automobile sector to Rs 15 lakh crore. It will create new jobs and make India one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. Apart from this, Gadkari also mentioned research in battery chemistry and said, “We should be pioneers in this field.”

Focus on alternative fuel

“We are working on the development of alternative, clean and green fuels such as bio-ethanol, bio-CNG, bio-LNG and green hydrogen,” Gadkari said. He also said that efforts are being made to reduce the cost of construction in the coming times. He said, “We are trying to minimize the use of steel and cement in construction work by adopting alternatives like fly ash, oil slag, waste plastic.
