Artificial Intelligence: According to a survey of Indians, about half admitted that they are unable to tell the difference between a person’s true voice and a clone, and 83 percent of voice scam victims reported losing money, according to a report by internet security company McAfee. In seven nations, including 1,010 respondents from India, a poll of 7,054 persons was done regarding imposters’ speech scams using artificial intelligence.
What Survey Says
According to the survey, 66% of the respondents from India stated they would respond to a voicemail or voice note claiming to be from a friend or loved one who needed money. Particularly if they believed their parent (46%) their partner or spouse (34%), or their child (12%) made the request. According to the study, messages saying that the sender had been stolen (70 percent), involved in a car accident (69 percent), lost their phone or wallet (65 percent), or required assistance when going abroad (62 percent) were the ones most likely to generate a response.

The survey also revealed that the prevalence of deep fakes and misinformation has made people more sceptical of what they see online, with adults in India reporting a decrease in social media trust of 27% and concern over the spread of misinformation or disinformation of 43% respectively. ‘Artificial intelligence opens up amazing possibilities, but as with any technology, there is always a chance that it could be misused maliciously by untrustworthy individuals. The availability and usability of AI tools are enabling cybercriminals to scale their operations in even more convincing ways today,’ according to McAfee CTO Steve Grobman.
