According to the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), 12,000 Indian government websites have been targeted by hackers from Indonesia.
As the Indonesian cyber attack gang plots to carry out its nefarious the I4C wing of the Ministry of Home Affairs warned the States and the UTs about the threats. ANI reported this citing its sources.
“It has been reported that websites of State and Central government are potentially being targeted,” part of the release said.
The information provided to the states and UTs advises the responsible officials to take the appropriate precautionary actions to stop the cyberattack.
Attacks such as Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) and Denial of Service (DoS) are planned by hackers. According to an article in Republic, this interferes with regular operations by overloading a computer network with traffic.
“Post this alert, government employees need to ensure that they do not fall for social engineering attacks; do not click on unknown emails or links, which can compromise security of such websites. They also ensure that all software updates are up-to-date,” Anand Prakash, founder and CEO of cybersecurity firm Pingsafe said.
You could recall that Delhi’s AIIMS servers were under hacker attack last year.
The outpatient and inpatient digital hospital services, including the smart lab, billing, report creation, and appointment system, continued to be impacted by the server outage. The Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) division of the Delhi Police has filed a case of extortion and cyberterrorism.
In addition, Malaysian hacktivist group DragonForce launched an assault on Indian government websites in response to the controversy surrounding Prophet Muhammad.
According to Rajeev Chandrashekhar, the Minister of State for Information Technology, the nation reported 13.91 lakh cyber security incidents in 2022 alone.
