India’s first indigenous aircraft carrier, INS Vikrant witnessed the visit of the first foreign Prime Minister on Thursday. Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, who is on a visit to India, was given a guard of honor on this aircraft carrier today. “I am honored to be aboard the recently commissioned, designed and built in India INS Vikrant at the invitation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” Albanese said in a statement. My visit reflects my government’s commitment to placing India at the center of the Australian vision for the Indo-Pacific region and beyond.”

In praise of PM Narendra Modi, Albanese said, “…What takes defense ties to a new level is the resolve and foresight of those who see the relationship not just for what it is, but also for what it could be. Prime Minister Modi is one such person. This visit of Albanese is part of the celebration related to the completion of 75 years of friendship between India and Australia.
This is Albanese’s first visit to India after becoming PM
This is Albanese’s first visit to India after assuming the office of Prime Minister of Australia in May last year. Significantly, in the last few years, the relations between India and Australia have intensified. The India-Australia Economic Cooperation and Trade Agreement (ECTA) came into force in December and is expected to help expand two-way trade. In June 2020, India and Australia elevated their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and signed a landmark agreement on reciprocal access to military bases for logistic support.
