A first year student of Sri Chaitanya College in Narsingi on the outskirts of Hyderabad allegedly committed suicide late on Tuesday night. His family had filed a case against the principal and two wardens of the college after alleging harassment by the college management. This is the fourth student suicide case from Telangana within the last 10 days.
According to the police, Nagula Satwik, a 16-year-old intermediate first year student, was found dead in an empty classroom by his classmates. On Wednesday, Satwik’s parents and relatives staged a protest alleging harassment and intimidation by the college management over his academic performance and tried to enter the college, which was locked by the management.
Student’s Heart-Breaking Apology To Mother
“I am not able to cope with this, Amma. That’s why I am doing this wrong deed. Please forgive me,” said the handwritten “suicide letter”.
“No one should suffer the torture I am going through. Please ensure they are punished…”
The note was full of apologies to his family – his parents, elder brother, even friends. “Sorry for subjecting you to this, Amma,” he wrote and asked his brother to look after his mother so that she doesn’t miss him.
Satwik’s father Nagula Raja Prasad said that he had met his son on Tuesday evening and he was not in a good mood at that time. Satwik allegedly told about the pressure of studies from his teachers. “I spoke to him and told him not to worry too much. I went home and within two hours I got the news. Principal Krishna Reddy used to abuse him repeatedly for (his) poor performance.” In a written complaint to the Narsingi police, Prasad said that his son was mentally tortured and the college management was responsible for his death.
The father of the deceased told that “When I met him last night, he asked for medicine for skin allergy, which I gave him. He complained about the bad food in the hostel. I told them that they should bear with it as the exams are nearing and I promised that we will get them admission in some other college in the next academic year, if necessary.”
Narsingi police have registered a case against college principal Krishna Reddy and two wardens and Satwik’s body has been sent to Osmania Hospital for postmortem.
In the last 10 days, the news of suicide of three students from Telangana has come to the fore. On 22 February, Dr Dharawat Preeti, a 26-year-old postgraduate first-year student at Kakatiya Medical College in Warangal, attempted suicide following alleged harassment. He was declared dead on 26 February. On February 25, Dasari Harsha, a 22-year-old MBBS final year student in Nizamabad, was found dead after allegedly committing suicide in his hostel room.
