Humayun Bhat: On Thursday, Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat, one of three Army personnel killed in a battle with terrorists in Anantnag, Jammu and Kashmir, was buried. Bhatt recently got married and had been working as a DSP with the Jammu and Kashmir Police for the last three years. As Bhat’s mortal remains, clad in the tricolour, arrived to his hamlet in Budgam, a sea of mourners showed up to pay their final respects to him.

His wife, who was there with their two-month-old kid in her lap, was also among the mourning. According to sources, Bhat, the son of former Jammu and Kashmir Police Inspector General Ghulam Hasan Bhat, passed away from severe blood loss. In a video, the father of Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat was seen placing a wreath over his son’s cremated ashes. In a battle with terrorists on Wednesday in the upper reaches of the Kokorenag area of the valley, three Army personnel—a Colonel commanding a battalion, a Major, and a Deputy Superintendent of Jammu and Kashmir Police—were killed, and one soldier was still missing. On Tuesday evening in the Garol area, the counterterrorism operation got underway but was suspended in the middle of the night. In the battle with the terrorists, Colonel Manpreet Singh, Commanding Officer of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles, Major Ashish Dhonack, and Deputy Superintendent Humayun Bhat all sustained critical wounds.

The officers passed away while receiving treatment for their wounds, and it is thought that another soldier, whose whereabouts are unknown at this time, may have been gravely hurt. DGP Dilbag Singh expressed his condolences for the loss of the courageous police and army officers. He stated in a message that every life lost is tragic and promised that those responsible for the atrocity will soon face justice. He expressed his condolences to the families of the deceased. The incident has been blamed on the outlawed Resistance Front, which is thought to be a covert affiliate of the Lashker-e-Taiba terrorist organisation based in Pakistan.
