Sukesh Chandrashekhar: CCTV footage showing jailed conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar in tears as prison authorities raid his cell in Mandoli Jail and confiscate some of his most prized possessions. The team that raided his cell comprised Tihar Jailor Deepak Sharma, deputy superintendent Jai Singh, and personnel from the central security forces. They found Gucci slippers worth Rs 1.5 lakh and two jeans worth Rs 80,000 in Sukesh’s cell. After they left, the footage shows Sukesh breaking down, holding his head in his hands and wiping tears on his sleeve.
Sukesh’s Luxury Lifestyle Ends
Jail authorities carry out surprise inspections to ensure inmates do not have contraband, such as weapons, mobile phones, or narcotics, stowed away in their cells. Sukesh and his wife Leena Paul were shifted to Mandoli Jail in August 2022 after he moved the Supreme Court seeking his transfer to a prison outside Delhi, citing a threat to his life. Sukesh has been jailed on charges of alleged money laundering and extortion of several people.
Tihar Jail Officials Under Scrutiny
While he was in Tihar jail, Sukesh accused top jail officials of running an extortion racket and accepting crores in bribes from him. In return, officials provided him with mobile phones and other facilities to contact his associates outside jail. The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of Delhi Police booked 81 Tihar jail officials on corruption charges in July last year after these allegations came to light.
