In Shopian, Jammu and Kashmir, security forces killed a terrorist in an encounter on Saturday. Kashmir Zone Police said that the operation is still going on in Kilbal area of Shopian. Police said that security forces and Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel are retaliating at the spot. The police have surrounded the entire area.
According to news agency PTI, a police officer said that on receiving information about the presence of terrorists in the Kilbal area of South Kashmir, the security forces started a search operation by cordoning off. He said that during the operation, the terrorists opened fire on the security forces, after which the force also retaliated and the encounter started. He said that the identity of the slain terrorist is yet to be ascertained.
A day earlier on Thursday, security forces arrested a Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist from Budgam district of Jammu and Kashmir and seized arms and ammunition from his possession. According to news agency PTI, a police official said that the security forces had received information about the presence of the terrorist, following which a search operation was started in the Chadoora area of Budgam in the morning.

He said that during the operation an active terrorist associated with the banned terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba was apprehended. He has been identified as Jehangir Ahmed Naikoo, a resident of Memandar in Shopian, the official said. Incriminating material, a pistol, two magazines of the pistol and 16 cartridges of the pistol, including arms and ammunition, were recovered from him.
