There has been a big change on the Jammu Kashmir Voting Orders. The Jammu official has withdrawn an order allowing residents of other states who have been residing in J&K for more than a year to become voters. Just a day after the order was issued, the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu withdrew his earlier order. In the earlier order, people residing in the district for more than a year were allowed to register as voters.
Under the order issued earlier by the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu, all those residents who have been residing in Jammu for more than a year were allowed to register as voters. Jammu Deputy Commissioner, Avani Lavasa withdrew his earlier order authorizing Tehsildars (Revenue Officers) to issue a certificate of residence to any person residing in the district for more than a year. Interestingly, the orders were withdrawn just a day after the order was issued. Lavasa is also the District Election Officer.
According to news agency ANI, the Deputy Commissioner of Jammu has withdrawn the notification authorizing all tehsildars to issue a certificate of residence “for more than one year” to people residing in Jammu.
As per earlier order, any person who is residing in Jammu district for more than one year, if he/she has documents like Aadhar Card, Water/Electricity/Gas Connection, Bank Passbook, Passport, Registered Land Deed, Registering as a voter can be done using these.
The regional parties of Jammu and Kashmir voting order was immediately opposed by the regional parties. The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC) said that they had opposed the government’s move.
