Janmashtami 2023: Each year, the auspicious occasion of Shri Krishna Janmotsav is joyously celebrated as Janmashtami, honouring Lord Krishna, considered an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. According to the Panchang, Janmashtami falls on the eighth day of the Krishna Paksha during the Bhadrapada month. This year, Janmashtami falls on September 6th.
Devotees mark this day by fasting and offering worship to Bal Gopal, the divine child form of Lord Krishna. Special Ratri Jagran events are organised, featuring a tableau where young children dress up as deities. However, every devotee must take care of a few things while decorating the idol of Lord Krishna.
1. Clothes
Ahead of adorning Bal Gopal on Janmashtami, you should bath the idol using Panchamrit, followed by the donning of fresh clothes. Special attention is paid to the choice of clothing for Bal Gopal. Traditional colors like green, red, and yellow hold great significance and are deemed highly auspicious. Additionally, garments crafted from peacock feathers or adorned with flowers are also considered suitable choices for dressing the deity.
2. Flute
The mention of the flute immediately evokes memories of Shri Krishna, and as such, the makeup of Bal Gopal remains incomplete without the inclusion of the flute.
3. Jewellery
Bal Gopal should be adorned with jewellery, which can be crafted from gold or silver. These ornaments may include armlets, bracelets, earrings, or earpieces. Anklets and Kamarbandh (waistbands) are also considered highly auspicious accessories to adorn Bal Gopal.
4. Crown
Lord Krishna is traditionally adorned with a peacock crown placed on his head. The peacock crown holds significant importance in Lord Krishna’s appearance and is regarded as an integral element of his makeup.
