Janata Dal United (JDU), an important National Democratic Alliance (NDA) ally, recently reaffirmed its position on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) and demanded comprehensive talks on the subject. JDU General Secretary and Spokesperson KC Tyagi stressed the need of taking into account the opinions of all stakeholders in the Agniveer Scheme and UCC.
Inclusive Discussions on UCC
KC Tyagi emphasised that discussions about the UCC must include all relevant stakeholders. He cited an earlier letter sent by Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar to the Law Commission Chairperson, in which he expressed support for the UCC but emphasised the necessity of comprehensive discussions.
Reevaluation of Agniveer Scheme
KC Tyagi acknowledged criticism to the Agnipath Scheme and recommended reassessing its implementation. He mentioned that there was unhappiness among security personnel, especially those serving in the army, and that their families also expressed displeasure during elections. Tyagi emphasised that in order to properly address these concerns, new discussions are necessary.
Support for ‘One Nation, One Election’
Tyagi declared that JDU was in favour of the idea of “One Nation, One Election.” He emphasised the party’s dedication to advancing this concept, which is in line with initiatives to simplify elections nationwide.
Strengthening the NDA Partnership
Tyagi emphasised JDU’s position in the NDA and the party’s noteworthy achievements made during the Atal Bihari Vajpayee-led administration. He restated the party’s long-standing demand that special state status be offered to Bihar in order to reduce migration. “Ministerial allocations are a matter for the Prime Minister to decide,” Tyagi continued, making it clear that the JDU has no demands in this regard.
