J&K News: In Shopian, Kashmir, on Saturday night, a terrorist attack claimed the life of an ex-sarpanch. The Kashmir Zone police claim that terrorists opened fire on BJP leader Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh at Heerpora in Shopian. Sheikh passed away in the hospital despite being taken out right away.
Terrorist Attack in Anantnag Leaves Tourists Injured
A Rajasthani tourist couple was hurt in an attack that the terrorists also carried out in Anantnag. At a public camping site close to Pahalgam, there was an attack. The attacks occur ahead of Baramulla’s Lok Sabha elections. While the Baramulla polls are scheduled for Monday, the Anantnag-Rajouri seat is also heavily contested.
The gunmen attacked Sheikh in Shopian’s Hirpora at around 10.30 p.m. in less than thirty minutes. Despite being taken to the hospital immediately, he died from his wounds. According to the officials, search operations have been initiated and the areas in Anantnag and Shopian have been cordoned off in an attempt to apprehend the attackers.
Abdullah Condemns Terrorism
JKNC Chief Farooq Abdullah says, “Terrorism still exists here…no matter which party member he (BJP leader and ex-Sarpanch Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh) belonged to, targeting somebody, this needs to be investigated whether he was killed by terrorists or people here…before pointing fingers at somebody, it needs to be investigated fast…tourists were also attacked in Pahalgam…this is a tragedy, it is affecting our tourism industry…”
