J&K News: Security forces foiled a terrorist plot in the Gunda Khwas area of Rajouri in Jammu and Kashmir with an attack on an army post. An encounter broke out soon after the initial interception, and intermittent firing has been going on between the terrorists and security personnel.
A Resurgence of Terror in Jammu
This is part of a worrying trend in Jammu, which has returned to the grip of terror activities within the last few months. Hitherto considered a peaceful region, Jammu has seen an increase in cases of infiltration and attacks that Pakistani-based elements have carried out. Taking serious note of the incidents, security agencies have initiated a number of major operations aimed at smashing terrorist networks and reinstating peace in the region.
The growing threat saw a high-level joint security review meeting on Saturday. It was chaired by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi. In attendance were the DGs of BSF, CRPF, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and heads of intelligence agencies, besides other senior security officials.
Security Agencies Launch Major Operations
The Lt. Governor, during the meeting, complimented that coordinated and ingeniously planned anti-terrorism operations were a much-needed step towards the elimination of terrorists and their supporters. Strengthening of security arrangements all along the borders to prevent cross-border infiltration has been ordered by him. Coordination among various security forces was underlined by him as a very important factor in making these operations a success.
According to sources in the intelligence agency, there are around 50 terrorists in Jammu region alone. After receiving this alarming figure of terrorists, the central government has decided to deploy 500 para commandos to help security forces in counter-terrorism and other operations in the region.
Deployment of Para Commandos to Tackle Terrorism
The resolve to fight terrorism was reiterated Thursday when security forces foiled the infiltration bid by killing two terrorists near LoC in Keran sector of Kupwara district. The operation has come a day after a similar encounter on July 14, in which three heavily armed terrorists were killed near LoC in Kupwara.
The rising violence and terrorist activities in the Jammu region underline the need for vigilance and robust security measures. The recent efforts of security forces and strategic directives from top officials are an indication of a strong commitment towards the restoration of peace and stability. As the operations go on, so also is the hope that what is put in will have a coordinated way of repelling this threat of terrorism and putting the region into a safe and secure zone.
