Job Scams: Following the precedent of Indians held hostage in Myanmar, the Indian government issued a warning against false job scams that prey on young people with IT skills.
According to the warning issued by the Ministry of External Affairs, missions in Bangkok and Myanmar have discovered phoney employment schemes by dubious IT companies in Thailand that are engaged in cryptocurrency and call center fraud.
According to the press release, bogus job schemes are luring young Indians with IT skills to apply for positions as digital sales and marketing professionals.
Who is the target?
The advisory highlighted that the target groups are IT skilled millennials who are conned into believing there are lucrative data entry employment in Thailand through social media adverts as well as through brokers operating in Dubai and India.

The majority of those who are taken advantage of by the fraudulent job rackets are illegally carried across the border into Myanmar where they are held captive and forced to labour in inhumane conditions.
Indian nationals were thus advised not to fall for these false job offers that are being disseminated via social media or other channels, according to the official alert.
Recommendations of the advisory:
The warning recommended Indian people to “check/verify credentials of foreign employers through appropriate Missions abroad, and antecedents of recruiting agencies as well as any company before taking up any job offer” before travelling on a tourist or visit visa for employment purposes.
