What did Joe Biden say?

Biden made these remarks during a press conference in Vietnam, where he is currently on an official visit following his participation in the G20 Summit in Delhi. During his first visit to India as U.S. President, Biden arrived in New Delhi on Friday and engaged in comprehensive discussions with Prime Minister Modi. They expressed their commitment to enhancing and broadening the bilateral defense partnership, including the progress made in India’s acquisition of 31 drones and the joint development of jet engines

During the press-conference in Vietnam, Joe said, “As I always do, I raised the importance of respecting human rights and the vital role the civil society and a free press have in building a strong and prosperous country with Modi.” Continuing further, he said, “have got a lot of important work done”.

Earlier, during the conclusion of the G20 Summit, Joe Biden said, “I want to once again thank Prime Minister Modi for his leadership and his hospitality and hosting the G20. He and I have had substantial discussions about how we’re going to continue to strengthen the partnership between India and the US building on the Prime Minister’s visit to the White House last June.”

Press was denied asking questions

Despite numerous requests from the White House, American journalists were not granted press access to pose questions to President Biden and Prime Minister Modi following their bilateral meeting in New Delhi on Friday. NSA Jake Sullivan said, “This meeting will be taking place at the Prime Minister’s residence, so, it is unusual in that respect — this is not your typical bilateral visit to India, with meetings taking place in the Prime Minister’s office and an entire programme.”
