Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Wednesday that the arrival of a large number of passengers at the Delhi airport was ‘unexpected’. Steps have been taken to make the system run smoothly at the airport and to correct the chaos. The Union Minister said that even then it would take seven to 10 days for the situation to return to normal. On Tuesday, many airlines asked passengers to reach the airport three to three and a half hours before. For the past few days, passengers arriving at Terminal 3 of Indira Gandhi International Airport have faced a lot of inconvenience.
Passengers asked to reach earlier
To avoid inconvenience to the passengers for check-in and boarding at the terminal, the airlines asked them to reach much before the time. Airline company Indigo asked its passengers to reach the airport at least three and a half hours before the departure time to board the flight. At the same time, he appealed to bring less number of goods. While Air India asked its passengers to reach the airport four hours before.
We made emergency arrangements – Scindia
In a special conversation with news channel, Scindia said, ‘Nobody expected such a large number of passengers to come to the airport during the winter festival season. It is the job of the airport operator to see the facilities at the airport and make proper arrangements for it. I have had a meeting with all the operators handling the airport operations. He said that a huge crowd of passengers reached from the entrance of the terminal to the check-in point. In view of this, we made some emergency arrangements.
The Union Minister further said, “If the waiting time of 20 minutes is being displayed at Gate No. 6 and if it is two minutes at Gate No. 11, then the passengers of Gate No. 6 should be sent to Gate No. 11 immediately.” Information about this should also be given on the display. Now such things are being done.
Check points will be increased to 20
Scindia told that there are 11 security check points at the airport, they will be increased to 20. Now there are 17 such points. He said, ‘We have removed all unnecessary barricades at the airport. Things will improve at the airport within seven to 10 days. Cooperation of all the airlines is also necessary to make the system smooth. In such a situation, it will take a few more days for the system to become completely normal.”
