The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board’s (BWSSB) head accountant, V Prashant Madal, was arrested by the Lokayukta police after collecting money from a person at the Crescent Road office of his father, Channagiri BJP MLA K Madal Virupakshappa.
The bribe money was intended for Prashant’s father, who also served as chairman of Karnataka Soaps and Detergents Ltd (KSDL), according to the Lokayukta police. According to the police, the exact demand was for Rs 81 lakh, of which the person was paying Rs 40 lakh. The complaint approached the minister’s son who wanted Rs 81 lakh in bribes in order to ensure that the tender would be awarded to him in order to participate in the supply of chemicals for KSDL. After that, according to a source, the complaint went to the Lokayukta police.
Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai said, “We have re-established Lokayukta to curb corruption. During the Congress regime, the Lokayukta closed a lot of cases. We will investigate those cases. The Lokayukta is an independent institution and our stand is clear. The institution will investigate independently and we will not interfere in it.”
Previously served as a financial advisor for the now-defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau
Prashant has been arrested by the police, and an inquiry is going on. He had previously served as a financial advisor for the now-defunct Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB). Reports claimed that Prashant attempted to join the Lokayukta after the ACB was shut down.
