Karnataka: According to DK Shivakumar, the leader of the Karnataka Congress, his party would win 150 seats in the state assembly next year even without the backing of any of its coalition partners.
Shivakumar spoke to the media at Ballari and claimed, “We will surpass 150 seats [in the Karnataka Assembly elections] without anyone’s help. A clear mandate of 150 seats will be given by the people of Karnataka.”

Congress v/s Bommai
In recent months, the Congress has turned to a vigorous anti-corruption campaign against the state administration led by Basavaraj Bommai. With posters and banners, the grand old party has intensified its “PayCM” campaign against Bommai. During the Bharat Jodo Yatra, party employees were spotted sporting ‘PayCM’ t-shirts as well.
A QR code with the Chief Minister’s picture is printed on the PayCM poster. When scanned, it takes users to a website called “40% Sarkara,” which makes the charge that the Bommai-led BJP administration takes a 40% commission on public works. After the government demanded an investigation into the Congress campaign, ‘PayCM’ banners were quickly taken down in Bengaluru.
A recent allegation by a contractors’ organisation that contractors had to pay a 40% commission to obtain public works contracts was fiercely refuted by the government.

Rahul Gandhi, Siddaramaiah and DKS beat drums together
In spite of indications of a conflict between two factions, one led by former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and the other by DKS, DK Shivakumar is claiming 150 seats. Because of this, at the beginning of the Karnataka leg of the yatra, Rahul Gandhi made it a point to hold Siddaramaiah and DKS’ hands as they beat drums together, emulating the scenario from a rally he held in Davanagere in August during which he had preached about togetherness.
Siddaramaiah and DK Shivakumar are both from the Old Mysuru area of Karnataka. Since his Davanagere rally, Siddaramaiah has established himself as a crowd-pleaser, but DKS is attempting to enlist the aid of his Vokkaliga community, the second-largest caste in the state and the majority in the southern regions.
