Karwa Chauth 2023: Karwa Chauth, the celebration of marital love, is rapidly approaching. It is an auspicious Hindu festival that ladies in northern and western India commemorate, also known as Karaka Chaturthi. The celebration takes place on the fourth day following the full moon in the Hindu month of Kartik, which in the Gregorian calendar usually corresponds to October or November.
The Tradition of Fasting
This year, on November 1, the important occasion will be marked with much fanfare and fervour. Married women observe a significant fasting ceremony in which they abstain from food from sunrise to moonrise in hopes of promoting their husbands’ health and longevity. But nowadays, husbands fast as well in hopes of prolonging their wives’ lives.
Do’s
- Prior to fasting, make sure your partner eats a balanced meal that is high in energy (carbs are a good choice in most cases).
- To avoid weariness, dry mouth, and headaches later on, make sure she has had enough water and drinks, such as lassi, chaach, or coconut water, before beginning the fast.
- Spend time well. Take a break from work if you can so that you can spend time with your wife and let her know how much you appreciate and love her.
- Thank her for all of her love and hard work. Acknowledging your spouse’s efforts and sacrifices throughout the fast is a wonderful way to express your gratitude for her love and commitment.
- Participate actively in the celebrations. You are not obligated to fast, but as a sign of respect, you might want to avoid serving your wife fancy foods right before her fast.
Don’ts
- Don’t let your wife think about eating. Plan an interactive activity, watch your favourite movie, read, listen to music, or plant trees during the hours that correspond with mealtime. The idea is to divert her attention and keep her mind occupied rather than idle in order to make her forget that she hasn’t eaten.
- Don’t force your spouse to observe a fast. Don’t force your wife to fast if she is unable or unwilling to do so for whatever reason. Alternatively, assist her and urge her to eat if she starts a fast but is unable to complete it.
- On this auspicious day, steer clear of disagreements and negativity and make an effort to keep your home peaceful and joyful.
- If your spouse is ill, don’t force her to fast because it’s common knowledge that she needs food to fuel her body. Get your wife’s doctor’s approval before starting a fast if she is expecting or has a health issue.
