Article 370 Verdict: The Supreme Court ruled on Monday that Article 370 of the Constitution, which gave the former state of Jammu and Kashmir special status, was a “temporary provision”. In a historic decision, the court unanimously upheld the Center’s August 5, 2019 decision to repeal Article 370’s provisions, ordering the earliest possible restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood and the holding of assembly elections by September 30, 2024.

Concerns on Government Support
When the reporter asked a person who was an English teacher by profession, ‘What is your opinion on the fact that India has removed Article 370?’ To this the person replied, ‘It depends on our government.’ We can liberate Kashmir but what will we do when the government is not with us. When the reporter asked, ‘The king of Kashmir had handed over Kashmir to India, then how can Pakistan express its right over it?’ On this the person said, ‘Obviously we were not there at that time and it is possible that they might have blackmailed or lured him too.’
Government Critique and Economic Concerns
When another person was asked the same question, he replied that ‘Our government only increases inflation and does nothing else. I stayed in Saudi and when I met the Muslims who had come from India, they proudly said that we are Indians. Even Kashmiri Muslims no longer like Pakistan.’
