Kharge-Led Opposition Delegation to Meet President Murmu over Manipur Situation

Manipur Violence: On Wednesday at 11:30 am, a delegation from the INDIA parties will meet with President Droupadi Murmu to inform her of the situation in Manipur, where ethnic violence has cost a large number of lives, and the steps that need to be taken to restore normality in the northeastern state. Apart from Manipur, the leaders will also “raise the Haryana issue and the functioning of Parliament before her,” according to the Congress sources, news agency ANI reported.

Opposition Seeks Urgent Parliamentary Discussions and Prime Minister’s Intervention in Manipur Crisis

According to the sources, Mallikarjun Kharge, the leader of the opposition in the Rajya Sabha, had earlier requested a meeting with President Droupadi Murmu on behalf of the opposition parties to discuss the Manipur issue. Both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha should hold thorough discussions on the violence in Manipur, and the Prime Minister should address the issue in Parliament. The violence in the BJP-ruled state in the northeast is still going on, they claim, and many people have been killed. They have now asked the President to get involved.

Opposition Delegation Exposes Tragic Tales of Suffering in Manipur

The ethnically split state was visited by a delegation of 21 opposition MPs, who then informed INDIA alliance leaders on the situation. The delegation visited the affected areas and interacted with people in both the valley and the hills’ relief camps. The head of the Congress party claimed that when opposition coalition INDIA MPs visited Manipur to assess the situation, they overheard people there telling tragic tales of suffering. The opposition’s representative for Manipur in the Lok Sabha, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, described the state’s situation as “grave.” “While Manipur faced turmoil, the Modi government appeared indifferent,” he had tweeted, adding that the community split was “deeply concerning.” “Despite time for poll rallies, self-PR train inaugurations, and attending BJP meetings, PM Modi seems to have no time to address the anguish and suffering of Manipur’s people or work towards resolving inter-community issues,” Kharge stated.
