Opposition Unity Meeting in Patna: Before leaving for Opposition meeting on Patna, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge responded to Aam Aadmi Party’s (AAP) threat to walk out of meeting. On Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal expressed hope that Congress would clear its stance on Centre’s Ordinance in Delhi. Later, one of the party sources had said “The AAP will stage a walkout of the meeting if the Congress does not promise its support against the ordinance.” Kharge stated that decision on Delhi ordinance will be taken before commencement of monsoon session. The Congress President said “Opposing it or proposing it does not happen outside, it happens in Parliament. Before Parliament begins, all parties decide what issues they have to work on together. They (AAP) know it and even their leaders come to our all-party meetings.”
Ambiguity of Congress’s Stance
The Indian National Congress has so far embodied a vague approach towards the issue of Centre’s Ordinance. The ordinance is control of administrative services in National Capital Region and it is the central concern of Aam Aadmi Party as status of Delhi as a full-fledged state is being put in a spot of peculiarity. A few days earlier both Punjab and Delhi Congress had advised non-opposition to ordinance heading to Patna Opposition meet. Although Congress has not cleared its stance, Kharge has stated that decision will be taken before Monsoon session. Kharge maintained that issues of Parliament should be discussed in Parliament, “About 18-20 parties decide together on what to oppose and what to accept. So instead of saying anything now, we will take a decision before Parliament begins,” he said.

Next Meeting in Shimla
After most of the attending leaders including Mallikarjun Kharge, Nitish Kumar and Mamata Banerjee expressed their satisfaction over issues discussed in the meeting, during press conference the course of future action was laid out. Parties have decided to erect a common front against the BJP despite the INC-AAP ‘standoff’ over Centre Ordinance. Kharge stated “We will meet again in July in Shimla to prepare an agenda on how to move ahead together while working in our respective states to fight BJP in 2024.” The opposition meet in Shimla will be held around 12 July where final modalities of the front will be agreed upon.
