Kolkata Rape Case

Kolkata Rape Case: The savage rape and killing of a young woman inside RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata shook the conscience of the country. Universal outrage and demands for justice later, with even the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) taking over the probe, the father of the victim came out openly against the West Bengal Police and Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over their handling of the investigation.

Frustration Over Slow Progress

The father expressed frustration over the progress of the case, saying, “Investigation is on, but nothing came out of it. Justice should come as soon as possible. Nobody from the department or the college cooperated with us. To add to it, our daughter’s body was cremated before the other bodies at the crematorium. It was a scandalous incident.” He further levelled allegations against the Bengal Police and Chief Minister for not keeping promises for giving justice, saying, “Chief Minister keeps telling that she will get justice, but it seems there is an effort to put behind bars those seeking justice, in order to keep them silent about the cause. We are not satisfied with Chief Minister assurances, and we rejected any compensation offered.”

Nation Shocked by Tragic Case at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital

The parents of the deceased had given an early indication of their suspicions regarding some people to the CBI. They now pointed out that they would not accept any compensation, meaning that taking money would amount to sullying their daughter’s name. Her father spoke about the brilliance of the girl: “She was brilliant and had cracked both medical and engineering entrance examinations, but took up medicine because of her passion for it.”

As the investigation unfolds, there is pressure from members of the public on authorities to respond to the demands of the family of the victim and to ensure that justice prevails. This case has become a rallying point in speaking out about accountability and openness in the handling of sensitive criminal investigations.
