Kolkata Rape Case: The murder of a female doctor at a prominent medical college and hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal, has taken a horrifying new turn in the inquiry. The postmortem report, which contains graphic details of the incident, was given to the victim’s family by the Kolkata police. The trainee doctor was brutally raped, according to the report, and then strangled to death. This report has led to nationwide strike that is affecting OPD services in various hopsitals.

Doctors’ objections have intensified after the postmortem report was given to the victim’s relatives. Not only have protests expanded beyond Kolkata, but also to other areas of the nation, such as the capital city of Delhi and several Maharashtra regions. Many patients are in anguish as a result of the significant disruption caused by the statewide doctor protest to healthcare services.
Key Findings in the Postmortem Report
Important details have come to light in the postmortem report of the female trainee physician at Kolkata’s Radha Gobinda Kar Medical College and Hospital. The doctor was sexually raped before she was murdered, according to the report that the Kolkata police gave to the victim’s family. According to the findings, the victim was strangled between three and five in the morning. The physicians who are protesting have become even more enraged after learning this.
Impact of the Doctors’ Protest
Massive protests have broken out across the nation in response to the brutal rape and death of the resident female physician. In reaction to the tragedy, the Federation of All India Medical Association (FAIMA) has called for a statewide strike. Doctors have consequently gone to the streets in places like Delhi, Patna, and Kolkata.
The strike has severely disrupted Outpatient Department (OPD) services, leaving patients struggling to receive medical attention. In Kolkata, patients visiting the RG Kar Medical College have expressed frustration over the lack of communication from the authorities. One patient remarked, “We haven’t been informed about anything. We asked the security guard, but he said he couldn’t tell us anything. We’ve been standing here for the last two hours without any information. Even the administration is not telling us anything.”
Protests from Patna to Delhi
The nationwide call for protest by FAIMA has resonated across various regions of the country.
In Delhi, doctors at Ram Manohar Lohia (RML) Hospital have gone on strike, demanding a CBI investigation into the Kolkata rape case. The protest has completely disrupted OPD services, causing significant inconvenience to patients.
Similarly, doctors at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Patna are also on strike today. Medical students and doctors are insisting on a CBI probe into the case, warning that the OPD services will remain suspended until their demand is met.
In Maharashtra, the strike continues at the Government Medical College & Hospital (GMCH) in Nagpur. The protesting doctors and medical students have voiced their concerns, stating, “Doctors spend more time in hospitals than at home. This is our second home. If we aren’t safe here, where can we be safe? We demand our safety and nothing else. How can we perform our duties if we aren’t secure? We need justice, and only then will we end our strike.”
