The Ex-Servicemen Association from the Cuddalore area of Tamil Nadu commissioned a bust of General Bipin Rawat to honour his memory as the late Chief of Defence Staff (CDS). An organisation member donation of Rs. 5 lakh was used to commission a “panchaloha” statue of the late Bipin Rawat. It would be about 150 kilogrammes in weight and 4 feet tall.
Bipin Rawat and his wife perished in a helicopter crash in Coonoor on December 8, 2021. He served as the first CDS of India and the 27th Chief of the Indian Army. In May of this year, the group’s request to construct the statue near the defence headquarters in Delhi was accepted, but another letter from the officials in June stated that the project is still being considered.

The group claims that the statue is the first ever to honour a chief of the military staff anywhere in the world. The group has urged defence officials and defence minister Rajnath Singh to take action to guarantee that the statue is brought to Delhi before the first anniversary of his passing. The national capital’s defence department’s headquarters will house the statue.
Copper makes up 85% of the panchaloha alloy. Using the conventional process, tin, zinc, and minute amounts of gold and silver are also added.
