Lok Sabha Election 2024: In the ongoing Lok Sabha Election 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi urged citizens to participate in record numbers during the second phase of voting, encompassing 88 parliamentary constituencies across 13 states and Union Territories. Emphasizing the pivotal role of voting in strengthening democracy, PM Modi particularly called upon young and women voters to exercise their franchise vigorously.

Congress Leaders Advocate for Constitution Protection:

Meanwhile, leaders of the Congress party, including Malikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Gandhi, issued appeals to voters, framing this election as crucial for safeguarding the constitution. Their messages underscored the significance of electoral participation in upholding democratic values and principles.

Voting Details:

Voting commenced at 7 am and will continue until 5 pm across the designated constituencies. Notably, Tripura led the voter turnout charts with 77.53%, while Uttar Pradesh recorded the lowest turnout at 52.74%, according to data released by the Election Commission of India.

Healthy Turnouts in Several States:

States such as Manipur (76.06%), West Bengal (71.84%), Chhattisgarh (72.13%), and Assam (70.66%) witnessed robust participation until 5 pm, reflecting citizens’ engagement in the electoral process.

Demographic Breakdown:

A total of 15.88 crore voters, comprising 8.08 crore men, 7.8 crore women, and 5,929 third-gender electors, are eligible to vote in this phase. Notably, 3.28 crore young voters aged 20-29 years, including 34.8 lakh first-time voters, are registered to cast their votes in this phase.

Phase 2 Overview:

The second phase of elections, following Phase 1’s voter turnout of approximately 62%, encompasses critical constituencies, including all 20 Lok Sabha seats in Kerala, 14 in Karnataka, 13 in Rajasthan, and others across various states.

Prominent Candidates in the Fray:

Among the 1,210 candidates vying for seats in Phase 2 are leaders from prominent political parties, including Congress’ Rahul Gandhi and Shashi Tharoor, BJP’s Tejasvi Surya and Union Minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar, as well as notable personalities like actors Hema Malini and Arun Govil, and outgoing Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla.

Counting of Votes:

The counting of votes for all seven phases of the Lok Sabha Elections is scheduled for June 4, marking the culmination of this pivotal democratic exercise.
