New parliament of India: The new Parliament building, which sits next to the old one, hosted the opening of Lok Sabha proceedings on Tuesday, beginning a new chapter in India’s political history. Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the event and stepped down from the old building with other Union Ministers present, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari, and others.
Prime Minister Renames Old Parliament Building
While extending Ganesh Chaturthi greetings and calling the transfer to the new parliament building a historic occasion, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla asked members to set a new standard of parliamentary debate by bringing up issues affecting the general public. Birla also paid honour to the people who shaped the country and created its own constitution. In his final speech delivered from the old building today, Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared that the former parliament building will now be known as “Samvidhan Sadan (Constitution House)”. The new parliament building, which will henceforth serve as the official Indian parliament, was reached by him leading all MPs there on foot.
New Hope New Confidence
“Today, we are taking leave from here and heading to the new parliament building. This is auspicious as today is Ganesh Chaturthi,” the prime minister stated before turning to address the speakers of both houses who were sitting next to him. “I appeal to you, and I hope you will consider it after deliberation. Now that we are going there (the new parliament building), the glory of this house should never decline. We shouldn’t just call it the ‘old parliament’. I request, if both of you permit, that this building should be known as ‘Samvidhan Sadan’ so that it always serves as an inspiration for us. When we call it ‘Samvidhan Sadan’, the memories of those great people who once sat here in the Constituent Assembly get linked to it. We shouldn’t let go of this opportunity to offer this gift to the coming generations,” PM Modi said. Yesterday, PM Modi spoke in Lok Sabha, paying tribute to “every brick” of the old structure and stating that the MPs will join the new structure with “new hope and confidence.”
