Lucknow News: Urdu poet and writer Munawwar Rana was admitted to Apollo Hospital in Lucknow early on Thursday after his health deteriorated. His daughter said in a video that her father is on ventilator and the doctors said that the next 72 hours will be extremely critical for him.
Sumaiya Rana said her father is on a ventilator and in critical condition. “My father’s health has been deteriorating over the past two-three days,” Sumaiya said in a video released around 3:30 am on Thursday.
Rana operated upon
“He got a severe stomach ache during dialysis. The doctors conducted a CT scan and found some problem with his gall bladder. He was then operated upon. My father’s treatment is going on under the supervision of doctors so that the infection can be reduced,” she said.
Doctors have said the next 72 hours are extremely critical for him, according to Sumaiya Rana.
Munawwar Rana is an acclaimed Urdu poet in the country and has written several ghazals. He turned down the Sahitya Akademi Award for Urdu Literature that he received in 2014. He vowed to never again accept a government award due to rising intolerance in the country.
Active in politics
He is also active in political developments in Uttar Pradesh. His daughter Sumaiya is a member of the Samajwadi Party.
Rana has often been mired in controversies for his political statements. The 70-year-old was slammed for favouring the Taliban and comparing it with Mahirishi Valmiki. He also supported the murder of Samuel Paty, who was killed over a controversy about Prophet Muhammad in Paris in 2020.
