A garden built in Maharashtra’s Malad area was named after Tipu Sultan during Uddhav Thackeray’s government. Now the Maharashtra government led by Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has decided to remove this name. Mumbai Suburban District Guardian Minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha has ordered the Collector to change the name of the garden named after Tipu Sultan in Malad.
Politics was going on for a long time regarding this matter. The decision to drop Tipu Sultan’s name is being seen as a victory for the BJP.
Giving information about this decision, minister and BJP leader Mangal Prabhat Lodha made a tweet and wrote, “The victory of the right wing” After removing the name of Tipu Sultan from a park in Malad. The order has been given.
There is no politics in the matter: Mangal Prabhat Lodha
Talking to the media, minister Mangal Prabhat Lodha said that there was no politics involved and he respected the wishes of the people who came out on the streets to protest against renaming the park after Tipu Sultan. He said that some people had put up a banner calling it Tipu Sultan Garden after which the local people had protested against it. Earlier this park did not have any official name so I have asked the authorities to take necessary steps and remove the illegal banner. If it has to be named, we will follow the due process.
Can’t become popular by changing name: NCP
NCP spokesperson Mahesh Bharat Taapsee said no government can become popular by changing the names of places or overturning the decisions of others. The government has not yet revealed the new name of the garden.
According to sources, the decision was taken because Tipu Sultan is a controversial name in neighboring states like Karnataka. The naming of the park was earlier reportedly opposed by the BJP.
