Major Relief for Hemant Soren as SC Quashes Jharkhand High Court’s Decision in the Mining Lease Case

Jharkhand: Hemant Soren, the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, was given relief on Monday by the Supreme Court in a matter involving a mining lease.

The Public Interest Litigation (PIL) brought against the alleged allocation of a lease and investment in a shell business by his close associates was dismissed by the top court.

The top court had determined that the plea could be upheld

The Jharkhand High Court’s decision was reversed by the Supreme Court when it rejected the plea on the grounds that it was maintainable. The top court had determined that the plea could be upheld.

In August, the Jharkhand government asked the Supreme Court to reject PILs that sought an investigation by the ED and CBI into a shell firm and a mining licence case against the state’s chief minister, Hemant Soren.

Soren’s request to Jharkhand High Court

Earlier, CM Soren had submitted a petition to the Jharkhand High Court requesting that RTI activist Shiv Sharma be charged under section 340 of the IPC for deceiving the court with two PILs.

Soren has accused Sharma of harming and destroying his reputation.
