Mallikarjun Kharge: The supremacy war between Rajasthan Chief minister Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot is unlikely to end soon. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge postponed a meeting scheduled on Friday with the Rajasthan leaders. The meeting was planned to take stock and analyse the party’s strategy in the run-up to the upcoming Assembly elections .
No fresh date has been fixed so far for the meeting as the party president had a busy schedule. Sources said Kharge is busy with the Karnataka Cabinet discussions. He is also busy with the offensive on Modi government over the controversy involving the inauguration of the new Parliament building.
A meeting with Madhya Pradesh leaders has also been deferred.
Rajasthan Congress infighting
It was expected that the party would find some solution to end the infighting in the state Congress in the meeting. Chief minister Ashok Gehlot, dismissed Sachin Pilot’s demand for compensation to candidates affected by paper leaks as ridiculous. He said it was nothing but ‘intellectual bankruptcy’.
This was his first public comment on Pilot’s demands. The CM has publicly mentioned nothing about the other two demands of Pilot including an impartial inquiry into the corruption charges against the previous Raje government and reconstituting the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) with a corruption-free system to prevent paper leaks.
So far, the CM has been avoiding any comment on Pilot’s demands saying that his focus is now on the inflation relief camps.
Pilot has three demands
Sachin Pilot on May 15 demanded the Rajasthan government to fulfil his three demands. “So far, I have been peaceful in putting forth my demands by doing symbolic fasts and taking out jan sangharsh padyatra but if, by the end of this month, the Gehlot government does not fulfil three demands that I have put forth, including providing compensation to all the students affected due to paper leak, disbanding RPSC and its reorganization and formation of a high-level committee to investigate cases of corruption that surfaced during Vasundhara Raje regime, there will be agitation in the state,” Pilot had said.
Sources said that the tussle between the two leaders is harming the party’s interests on the ground in the poll-bound state. They hoped that the tussle will be resolved soon.
