Mallikarjun Kharge: According to sources, Congressman Mallikarjun Kharge resigned as the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) in the Rajya Sabha on Saturday, one day after he submitted his nomination for the election for the role of party president.
Kharge sent Sonia Gandhi, the interim president of the Congress, a letter of resignation in response to the Udaipur Resolution of One Leader One Post.
Digvijay Singh and P Chidambaram are vying to succeed Kharge as the LoP.
THE ELECTION’S STAGE IS SET
Mallikarjun Kharge, Shashi Tharoor, and KN Tripathi submitted their declarations of candidacy for the Congress presidential election on Friday.
Prithiviraj Chavan, Manish Tewari, and Bhupinder Hooda, leaders of the G-23, have declared their support for Mallikarjun Kharge’s bid for the party’s presidency.
In the meantime, Digvijaya Singh, who had previously been running for the top position in the Congress, declared that he would not run for party president and would instead suggest Mallikarjun Kharge as a candidate.
