Harish Pengan: Malayalam actor Harish Pengan passed away on May 30 at a private hospital in Kochi. The 49 years old actor was hospitalised earlier this month and was undergoing treatment for acute liver ailments.
Pengan was a part of films like Maheshinte Prathikaram and Minnal Murali.
Earlier this month, he complained of stomach pain and was admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) of Amritha Institute of Medical Sciences in Kochi. Medical tests revealed that his condition was serious.
The doctors had suggested a liver transplant and Pengan’s twin sister agreed to be the donor. However, the actor did not have the money required.
Nandan Unni appeals for help
His colleague and actor Nandan Unni penned a long note on social media and even sought help for the actor’s treatment. In the meanwhile, Pengan’s condition deteriorated and he passed away on May 30. His last rites are being held in Kochi on May 31.
Tovino Thomas, who shared screen with Harish Pengan in Minnal Murali, paid his tribute to the actor. Sharing the news, he wrote, “Rest in peace chetta(sic).” See here:
Friends seek financial help for actor’ treatment
Pengan’s friend Nandan Unni mentioned on Instagram that a huge sum was required for Harish Pengan’s treatment. “Let’s join hands to save a life. Harish Pengan, the actor who played many remarkable roles, made us laugh with many films like Maheshinte Prathikaaram, Shefeekkinte Santhosham, Honey Bee 2.5, Vellaripattanam, Jaane Mann, Jaya Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey, Priyan Ottathilanu, Jo and Jo, and Minnal Murali. My compatriot and dear friend, Harish, has been struggling to get back to life at Amrita Hospital, Ernakulam, for the past ten days (sic),” he wrote.
The note also read, “He was admitted to the hospital with minor abdominal pain and has serious liver disease. The doctors have suggested an urgent liver transplant. Harish’s twin sister, Sreeja, is ready to donate her liver. What is needed now is the huge amount required for the treatment (sic).”
