MCD Mayoral Elections: The AAP and BJP leaders’ massive brawl at the civic centre resulted in the postponement of the Delhi civic body’s mayor elections. The swearing-in of council members has also been delayed due to ongoing conflict between BJP and AAP politicians, which caused a major uproar in the MCD house.
The house was adjourned by pro-tem speaker Satya Sharma after four council members who had been nominated had been sworn in; the remaining council members would be sworn in at the next session of the house.
Not Mukesh Goyal of the Aam Aadmi Party, but Satya Sharma’s swearing-in as protem speaker is under scrutiny. Sharma, however, took the oath, but the commotion started when she first called the nominated council members for the swearing-in rather than the elected council members.

AAP’s objection
AAP objected to the choice, claiming it was “unconstitutional.” The election for Delhi’s mayor, in which voting was scheduled to take place, has been put on hold due to the general commotion.
The house’s presiding officer, Satya Sharma, told ANI that despite her appeals for everyone to behave normally, “they want to cause a commotion and jump on the desk.”
“I appealed for the normal proceedings but they want to create a ruckus & climb on the desk. If they sit peacefully, we are ready for the swearing-in of everybody” she declared.

Regarding The Elections
Aaley Mohammed Iqbal, a councillor from Chandni Mahal ward, will run for deputy mayor, which is notable given that the AAP has nominated Shelly Oberoi, a first-time councillor from East Patel Nagar, as its candidate for mayor.
Rekha Gupta and Kamal Bagdi, on the other hand, are the candidates the BJP has put forth for the elections for the positions of mayor and deputy mayor, respectively.
Bagdi was first elected from Ram Nagar, while Gupta has served on the council for three terms from Shalimar Bagh.
In the meantime, the power struggle between Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP intensified earlier in the day when Saxena nominated a BJP leader as the temporary Speaker to oversee the mayoral election on Friday.
Kejriwal expressed his “dismay and disquiet,” accusing Saxena of working around his administration and engaging in “blatantly unconstitutional, colorable exercise of authority.”
