Medical test every 48 hrs, allowed to meet wife for 15 mins, check out conditions for Manish Sisodia’s custody

Manish Sisodia: Delhi’s Rose Avenue court has sent Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia to a five-day CBI custody till March 4 in an excise policy scam case. Earlier this morning, Sisodia moved to Supreme Court to challenge his arrest by the CBI. The Delhi court had allowed the Central agency to carry out a “proper and fair investigation’ and get ‘genuine and legitimate’ answers from the Delhi DY CM. The central probing agency had claimed that Sisodia hasn’t cooperated with the investigation.

“A proper and fair investigation requires that some genuine and legitimate answers to the questions being put to him about the same are to be found and hence, in considered opinion of this court, this can only be done during custodial interrogation of the accused,” the judge said.

Conditions for Sisodia’s judicial custody

The court has laid a series of instructions before the CBI for the judicial custody. Below are the set of rules that CBI has to follow during Delhi’s DY CM’s remand.

  1. The accused during the time of questioning shall be conducted in some place having CCTV coverage. The footage shall be preserved by the CBI.
  2. The judge has ordered that Sisodia needs to be medically examined every 48 hours.
  3. The judge has permitted Sisodia to meet his counsel for half an hour between 6 pm to 7 pm during his CBI custody. The agency officials are not allowed to hear their private conversation.
  4. Sisodia is also permitted to meet his wife every day for a duration of 15 minutes, the order stated.
  5. He will be allowed to take the prescribed medicines.

Arvind Kejriwal on Manish Sisodia’s arrest

Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal had said that he has been told that many CBI officials were against the arrest, but they had to obey their political masters.

“I am told that most CBI officers were against Manish’s arrest. All of them have huge respect for him and there is no evidence against him. But the political pressure to arrest him was so high that they had to obey their political masters,” he said in a tweet.
